Vaser Liposuction

Vaser liposuction is an advanced technology used to shape problem areas of the body using sound waves. Ultrasonic waves are used to break up fatty tissue. As the fat liquefies, it is suctioned through a small tube. Vaser liposuction is different from other methods of fat removal, such as laser liposuction, in that it has the ability to break up fat cells while leaving other important tissue, such as skin and muscle tissue and blood vessels, in tact.

The actual procedure is quite simple. The physician will outline the area to be treated. A tumescent saline solution will then be injected into the treatment site. This wets and fills the area which, along with the ultrasonic pressure, helps to break up the fatty tissue. Once the fatty tissue is liquefied, it is suctioned through a tube. Once the procedure is completed, the skin will retract and the treatment area will look natural and will not need stitches.

Vaser liposuction generally will take place in a doctor’s office or outpatient center. The patient can receive local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the treatment. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and the patient is able to leave the doctor’s office as soon as the anesthesia wears off.

This procedure is considered to be superior to other body shaping procedures because there is minimal bruising and swelling after surgery. Recovery time is less than with traditional procedures. Vaser liposuction also affords the patient the opportunity to choose which parts of the body need treatment. Selective fat removal is considered to be one of the best benefits of this procedure. Therefore, if a patient has a problem area that has proved to be unresponsive to diet and exercise, fat can be removed through vaser liposuction in that area alone. The patient can decide which parts of the body need to be treated, and in most cases, all areas can be treated at one time. Vaser liposuction can be used to treat almost any area of the body. Common treatment areas include the arms, chest, abdomen, hips, back, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.

Recovery time with vaser liposuction is much quicker than with traditional liposuction which can take several weeks for recovery. Usually, patients can see immediate results. However, full results are usually seen three to four months after surgery.

While post-treatment risks exist, they are rare. Some of the risks associated with vaser liposuction are the possibility of developing fat clots or blood clots that could possibly move to the lungs causing serious illness. Fluid loss caused by liposuction can cause low blood pressure, friction burns or a buildup of fluid. Ensuring a qualified physician is performing the procedure will greatly reduce the risks associated with the treatment.

Patients are often concerned about weight gain after the procedure. A healthy diet along with regular exercise should reduce the chances of the weight returning. However, if weight gain does occur, it will most likely not collect in one particular area, but will be distributed proportionately. Patients need to remember that weight changes also take place with age. Vaser liposuction should not replace a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is a procedure that removes fat from specific areas in order to give a more flattering figure. Though most patients don’t lose weight with the procedure, they are usually pleased with the results.

Cost of vaser treatment will vary depending on the areas being treated and the extent of the treatment. Once you meet with your physician for a face-to-face consult, you will then have a better idea of the cost involved.
