The Ultra Sonic Approach to Liposuction
In the early 1990’s, liposuction through the method of ultrasound Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction or UAL was introduced to the public as an alternative to the more traditional approach of tumescent liposuction. Ultrasonic technology uses a sound wave to heighten the results of traditional liposuction. The ultrasonic approach is said to help with skin tightening as well. The greatest beauty associated with the ultrasonic approach is that the procedure can be performed with less invasiveness than traditional approaches.
Depending upon the amount of fat to be removed, the tumescent approach may be the better option. Yet, the ultrasonic approach tends to work well for dense glandular fat areas and some of the larger localized areas. It can be extremely useful for people interested in removing fat from the back area and waist. Ultrasonic liposuction is known to be safe, effective and may reduce the need for touch ups following an initial procedure. It is also a cost effective alternative to traditional liposuction and the positive outcome can appear within one hour or more.
At the same time, it is important to select the appropriate plastic surgeon for this type of liposuction. Not all plastic surgeons use the ultrasonic technique. Plastic surgeons that utilize the ultrasonic technique may choose from two different types of ultrasonic liposuction: Internal UAL and External UAL. The UAL approach uses a cannula that is inserted into the treatment area to send waves that remove excess fat. External UAL uses an instrument that waves over the treatment area to remove fat. As with all medical treatments, there are complications associated with this technique. Not all people are good candidates for liposuction. It is important review both options at the time of an initial consultation for ultrasonic liposuction.
