The Right Age for Breast Augmentation

Young women have often been interested in breast augmentation to improve the appearance of breast asymmetry, increase breast size and better fit into the mainstream of their society. Some young women become interested in breast augmentation following injury, disease or trauma to the breasts. The FDA and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons both have established guidelines for young women interested in breast augmentation.

The FDA and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons identified that teenagers may not have fully developed breasts when they become interested in breast augmentation. Teenagers must be physically and emotionally capable of managing the results of the procedure. Teenagers must have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure as well.

According to FDA guidelines which were also adopted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation may be performed on women that meet the following specifications:

Reconstructive Breast Augmentation

  • Saline breast implants manufactured by Allergan and Mentor may be used in young women of any age for reconstructive breast surgery following trauma or disease as well as revision breast surgery after an initial breast augmentation procedure.
  • Silicone breast implants manufactured by Allergan and Mentor may be used in women of any age for reconstructive breast surgery following trauma or disease.

Breast Augmentation for Aesthetic Improvement
