Rhinoplasty with Facial Fillers and the Laser Advantage
One of the latest trends in rhinoplasty is a newly evolved technique that uses facial fillers to augment the nose. Plastic surgeons may inject Radiesse® Restylane®, Perlane® or Juvederm® and sometimes Botox to perform a nose job in 15 minutes or so. Facial Fillers and Botox may be used to improve an enlarged nose tip, a low and wide nasal bridge, a ski-slope, bumpy nose or crooked nose. The results of the procedure may be temporary, lasting 4 to 12 months depending upon of the type of filler used in treatment. Yet, the costs are reasonable and the procedure is minimally invasive, so people usually do not mind returning for maintenance treatment. Now, there is another advantage for people interested in nose enhancement through facial fillers.
Because there may be bruising for up to two weeks following injectible use, Candela Corporation began to research how they could improve initial outcomes following injectible use. Candela announced study findings which show that a laser can speed up the healing process and improves results. In the March/April 2009 issue of the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, an article entitled: “Pulsed-Dye Laser for Treating Ecchymoses After Facial Cosmetic Procedures” suggested that Candela’s Vbeam® laser treatment used after injectibles resulted in a 63% mean improvement within a 48 to 72 hours thereafter. Other researchers studied the safety and efficacy of improvement following laser treatment. The results of this study are documented in a 2009 ASLMS abstract, entitled: “A Simple Solution to a Common Problem”. The results were remarkable. Patients were evaluated twenty four hours following treatment. Average improvement for study participants that received Vbeam laser treatment was 62%.
The premise is that the use of the laser helps to repair injured blood vessels. Blood vessels that are injured following injections may not provide adequate oxygen to the skin, tissue and cells for healing. In this way, healing is improved with the use of a laser following injectibles for nose enhancement.
