Breast Augmentation or Reduction, Solutions for Breast Asymmetry
More and more women have become concerned about the asymmetry between the breasts. It is very common for women to have breasts that are different in size. The decision to add breast volume or reduce breast volume to improve breast asymmetry depends on the goals of the individual. In either case, the outcome of balancing breast size between the breasts through breast surgery is enhancing and most patients are pleased with the results.
Plastic surgery for breast asymmetry is not meant to produce perfectly matching results. Yet, it is a popular choice for people who are bothered by breast asymmetry.
The size and projection of the nipple may also add to an asymmetric appearance of the breasts. In addition, some women with breast asymmetry have breast droopiness which can further implicate the appearance of asymmetric breasts.
Breast Surgery Choices
Breast Augmentation: Breast augmentation is popular for women with smaller asymmetric breasts. Plastic surgeons can accommodate for the size difference by placing implants of different sizes into the individual breasts.
Breast Reduction: Breast reduction may be the better choice in some women with breast asymmetry. During a breast reduction procedure for a large breasted woman, plastic surgeons may use liposuction to remove fat cells in the oversized breast.
Breast Lift: Some women may also benefit from a breast lift should the asymmetry be related to the droopiness of the breasts.
Nipple Surgery: Nipple surgery can be performed to improve the appearance of the nipples in relation to the breasts. There is often a waiting period for this procedure to allow for enough time after the initial breast surgery procedure for the breasts to drop or position properly without post operative swelling. Nipple surgery may be performed after breast augmentation or breast reduction. In some cases, nipple surgery is performed at the same time of the initial procedure.
