A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen. Sometimes simply dieting and exercising are not enough to take care of waistline problems. Many women who have lost elasticity due to pregnancy are also a great candidate for this procedure. This procedure will also tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall giving the belly a flat and firm look. It may also be useful after losing a lot of weight.
The first step to going about this surgery is to schedule a consultation. When you come for the consultation you will meet directly with your specialist. At this time he will examine your abdominal area, and go over your medical history and any previous surgeries you may have had. At this time you will be able to ask any questions or concerns you have about the surgery. You will then meet with the patient coordinator. She will have you look over photos, discuss pre-op and post-op instructions and work with you on the fees and scheduling the surgery. Once you decide upon a date we will send you to get blood work. For a male often just a normal blood count will be taken. For a female you will need a normal blood count and a pregnancy test to be taken.
The tummy tuck will take two to four hours. The incision will be made horizontally across the lower abdomen. The abdomen tissue is tightened to provide a firmly contoured stomach and defined waistline. The incision is then closed with stitches that are dissolvable and will fall out on their own. Once you are finished with surgery you will go to our recovery room for an additional two hours. You must make arrangements for someone to drive you home after surgery. They must also stay with you the night of your surgery. You will want to take ten to fourteen days off from work.
