About the Surgeon
William H. Huffaker, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a prominent St. Louis physician who began practicing plastic surgery in 1978. He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his internship at the University of Alabama Medical Center. Following his first year of general surgery residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Dr. Huffaker served in the U.S. Army for two years as an Otolaryngologist at the Fort Bragg Womack Army Hospital. He then returned to the University of Virginia for two years and to their affiliate, Roanoke Memorial Hospital, for one year to complete his surgery residency as Chief Resident.
After completing his plastic surgery residency at Washington University Barnes Hospital, he achieved board certification by the American Board of Surgery in 1979 and the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1980. In 1997, Dr. Huffaker and Dr. Bruce White merged their individual practices into the partnership of St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery, Inc.
Dr. Huffaker is currently President of the St. Louis Area Society of Plastic Surgeons as well as Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the West County Surgery Center. He has served as President of the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, as President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society and as Vice President of the Missouri State Medical Association. Dr. Huffaker is active in several national professional organizations and was a previous Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Huffaker's primary interest is in cosmetic surgery. He has been a leader in the utilization of endoscopic-assisted techniques of the face, breast and abdomen, as well as vertical mammoplasty, a technique for eliminating the horizontal incision utilized in most other breast reduction and lifting procedures. Other procedures of interest include high tension lateral abdominoplasty, lower body lifts, deep-plane facelifts, breast enlargement, liposculpture, ultrasound-assisted liposuctioning and laser skin resurfacing.
