Pros and Cons, Touch and Feel, Ripple Effect
Breast implants are continuing to grow more and more popular as the years pass. What was once a cosmetic surgery reserved for the rich and famous is now a surgery that thousands of women choose to have done.
Saline breast implants come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and have an outer shell that can be either smooth or textured, depending on what you desire.
Placement Positions
Saline breast implants can be put into your breast area three different ways.
1. Subglandular (Over the Muscle)
2. Partial Submuscular (Top 2/3 is Covered by the Muscle)
3. Complete Submuscular (Under the Muscle)
The aspects are different, and the one you choose will be based on the type of implant look that you want to achieve. The recovery time varies as well, as implants under the muscle will take much longer to heal than over the muscle implants will.
Incision Type/Location
A good thing about saline breast augmentation is the fact that they involve smaller incisions than silicone breast implants do. There are a number of options available when it comes to the incision site for surgery. They include:
- Inframammary (where the breast and chest come together)
- Periareolar (nipple)
- Transaxillary (armpit)
- TUBA (belly button)
Saline Rupture Risks
This is another huge upside to saline-based breast implants. If you do indeed suffer a rupture, then the saline solution is easily absorbed in the body, without harmful side effects. You will also be able to tell immediately when they rupture, as the size and look are very noticeable right away.
Saline Touch and Feel
This is one of the main complaints regarding saline breast implants. Many women prefer the silicone feel, as it is more natural and better feeling. Saline breast implants tend to feel like water balloons, which many women do not care for.
Saline Ripple Effect
Another drawback to choosing saline filled breast implants is the ripple effect. Saline implants tend to show rippling and/or wrinkling much easier than their silicone counterparts. This wrinkling or rippling effect can be seen through the skin, and is very unattractive to most women.
There are both pros and cons related to choosing to go with a saline breast implant. The main risk you take by choosing saline is the ripple and feel issues.
