Blepharoplasty is surgery that is performed on the eyelids to correct droopiness by removing excess skin, fat and muscle. As you age, the muscles supporting the eyelids stretch and weaken which results in the buildup of excess fat on upper and lower lids. This can cause sagging brows, drooping upper lids and bags under the eyes. Severely drooping lids can also impair vision.

Before deciding if eyelid surgery is right for you, you must consider the benefits and risks associated with this procedure. As with any surgery, there are risks involved with blepharoplasty such as infection and a reaction to anesthesia. Excess fat, skin and muscle will be removed. The incision may be sutured with tiny stitches, and in some cases surgical tape or skin adhesives may be used. Then, the same is done to the lower lid.
The procedure usually takes less than two hours. You will spend some time in a recovery room and will be monitored for a few hours after surgery to ensure there are no complications. You will be required to use an ointment on the eyelids to protect them and to prevent dryness. Pain is minimal and healing time can be up to three weeks.
