Plastic Surgery Attracts Elders

Plastic surgery for the elderly was unheard of years ago. In earlier days, graceful aging meant living comfortably with smile and lip lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and a less than perfect body contour. Of course, the drive was always there to live a healthy lifestyle through skin care, diet and exercise. In fact, many say it’s a natural part of aging to put on a bit of weight when aging. Yet, aging gracefully has taken on a new meaning for today’s elders. According to The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), from 2002 to 2007 the average age for people undergoing plastic surgery procedures has increased based on data provided by their members. In fact, as baby boomers continue to age, the average age for plastic surgery is expected to go up. Baby boomers are considered to be the “generation” that is between 42-64 years of age. According to 2007 AACS data, the breakdown is, as follows:

  • Plastic surgery average age is close to 43 years of age.

  • Non-invasive cosmetic procedures average age was approximately 42.

  • 23% of all plastic surgery procedures were surgical.

  • 77% of all cosmetic procedures were non-surgical procedures.

The best part about plastic surgery today is that there are less invasive options associated with most every plastic surgery procedure. Traditional plastic surgery procedures have made improvements to reduce recovery time, scarring, and improve outcomes. The ranking in popularity from least invasive on up includes:
